Program Overview

Who They Are

Founded in March 2021, Foster Coalition is a catalyst organization — not a direct service provider, but the connective tissue that makes the entire foster care ecosystem work better. They unite state foster agencies, local nonprofits, church ministries, and volunteers so that foster, adoptive, and kinship families never have to navigate the system alone.

As a 2024 Candid Platinum Seal of Transparency recipient, Foster Coalition is recognized for accountability and impact. Research shows that unified community efforts like theirs improve outcomes for children by up to 50%. With 90 cents of every donated dollar going directly to their mission, they are maximizing every resource for Alabama's children.

How They Help

Family Support & Resources

Foster Coalition makes it easier for foster, adoptive, and kinship families to find support and real people who understand the journey. They remove barriers so care and encouragement are always within reach — connecting families to services, training, and a community that gets it.

Church & Agency Collaboration

Foster Coalition brings churches, agencies, and community organizations to the same table so they work together instead of separately. They assist church leadership with foster care ministry teams, recruit foster parents and mentors, and coordinate training across Jefferson and Shelby Counties.

Education & Training

Foster Coalition provides continuing education, trauma conferences, and regular networking events for foster parents, social workers, and organizations. Certificates are available for Alabama social workers and foster families who attend training events.

Advocacy & Awareness

Through PBS APTV documentaries, newsletters, social media, and community events, Foster Coalition works to shift the public image of foster care — recruiting more advocates, reducing burnout, and building a stronger, more unified support system statewide.
