Program Overview

Who They Are

Founded in 2010, Grace Klein Community (GKC) started as a simple food delivery operation out of one home in Hoover, Alabama. Today it has grown into a powerful community network uniting hundreds of volunteers, donors, churches, and businesses across 47 Alabama counties — all centered on the belief that people are better together.

GKC serves foster families throughout the Birmingham area with food, clothing, hygiene products, diapers, wipes, school supplies, and Christmas support. Their FeedBHM food rescue program rescued over 2.7 million pounds of food in 2024, distributing to families in need through contact-free drive-thru sites across the region six days a week.

How They Help

FeedBHM — Food Rescue

GKC's flagship food rescue program recovers edible food from local restaurants, grocers, and cafes and redirects it to families in need. Operating Monday through Saturday across multiple drive-thru sites, FeedBHM rescued over 2.7 million pounds of food in 2024 — no appointment needed, no barriers to access.

Foster Family Essentials

Grace Klein Community provides food, clothing, hygiene products, feminine products, diapers, wipes, school supplies, and Christmas support for foster families throughout the Birmingham area. Their "We Say Yes" approach means they work to meet whatever need is placed in front of them.

Community Volunteering

With over 564 Food Rescue Heroes volunteering in 2024, GKC makes it easy for anyone to plug in and serve. From food pickups and drive-thru distributions to donation sorting and community events — every volunteer directly impacts families across Alabama.

Statewide Community Network

What began in one Hoover home now spans 47 Alabama counties, partnering with 423 food donors and hundreds of distribution partners. GKC collaborates with churches, businesses, and nonprofits to build authentic Koinonia community and meet needs at scale across the state.
