Program Overview

Who They Are

Comfort Cases was founded in 2013 by Rob Scheer, a former foster child and adoptive father, after he witnessed his own adopted children arrive carrying their belongings in trash bags. Moved to action, Rob packed the first comfort cases himself — and a national movement was born.

Since then, Comfort Cases has distributed over 250,000 backpacks and duffel bags to children entering foster care across the United States. Each case is packed with essential items — clothing, hygiene products, a stuffed animal, a blanket, and age-appropriate activities — sending every child a clear message: you matter, you are loved, and you deserve better than a trash bag.

How They Help

Comfort Cases Distribution

Comfort Cases packs and distributes backpacks and duffel bags filled with essential items for children entering foster care — clothing, hygiene products, a stuffed animal, a cozy blanket, and age-appropriate activities. Over 250,000 cases have been distributed nationwide since 2013, each one telling a child: you are valued, you are seen, and you deserve dignity.

BagBusters — No More Trash Bags for Children in Foster Care
#BagBusters Campaign

The #BagBusters campaign is Comfort Cases' national awareness movement with one clear goal: no more trash bags for children in foster care. By rallying communities, schools, corporations, and individuals to pack and donate cases, #BagBusters has transformed how America sees and treats children entering the foster care system.

Pack-a-Case Events

Comfort Cases hosts and supports Pack-a-Case volunteer events where community members, corporate teams, schools, and faith groups gather to pack comfort cases for children entering foster care. These events are powerful, hands-on experiences that build empathy, community, and direct support for foster children — anyone can host one.

Advocacy & Awareness

Through media, speaking engagements, legislative advocacy, and social media campaigns, Comfort Cases amplifies the voices of foster children and the families who care for them. Founder Rob Scheer's own story as a former foster child drives the organization's advocacy — turning personal experience into systemic change for children across America.

Ways to Support

Comfort Cases needs donors, volunteers, corporate partners, and community champions who believe no child should carry their life in a trash bag. You can donate money, purchase items from their wish list, host a Pack-a-Case event, or join the #BagBusters movement — every action directly puts a comfort case in the hands of a child entering foster care.

Visit comfortcases.org/get-involved to donate, volunteer, or host a drive. You can also give directly to ensure more children enter foster care with dignity, comfort, and the message that they are loved.
