Inspiring, recruiting, and resourcing local churches to care for children, youth, and families impacted by foster care — bridging Maryland churches and child welfare.

Program Overview

Who They Are

Project Belong Maryland inspires, recruits, and resources local churches to care for children, youth, and families impacted by foster care — serving as the bridge between Maryland churches and child welfare. Driven by the conviction that every child belongs in a family, that children flourish in a church community, and that healing happens in relationship, they equip congregations across the state to step into the foster care movement in practical, sustainable ways.

A registered 501(c)(3), Project Belong Maryland mobilizes churches across three focus areas — launching Wraparound Care Teams, helping youth shift from “Aging-Out” to “Aging-In” to a local community, and providing frontline Social Worker Support — so that no family or worker in the child welfare system has to carry the weight alone.

How They Help

Wraparound Care Teams

Project Belong Maryland launches church-based Wraparound Care Teams that surround foster, adoptive, and kinship families with practical, ongoing support — meals, respite, encouragement, and community — so families don't carry the weight of caring for vulnerable children alone.

Aging-Out to Aging-In

Rather than letting youth simply “age out” of foster care with nowhere to turn, Project Belong Maryland helps young people transition into a local church community — building lasting relationships and a sense of belonging that carries them into adulthood.

Social Worker Support

Recognizing the toll of frontline child welfare work, Project Belong Maryland mobilizes churches to support social workers directly — helping increase retention and sustain the workforce that Maryland's foster children depend on every day.
