Program Overview

Who They Are

Closet of Hope is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Summerville, South Carolina — serving the Charleston area and beyond. Founded on the conviction that no child in foster care should go without, the organization provides free clothing, essentials, and emergency relief to children and youth in foster, kinship, and adoptive families throughout the state.

Powered entirely by community volunteers and donations, Closet of Hope serves not just children but the caregivers and families around them — including youth aging out of the system who need life skills support, mentorship, and housing resources as they transition into adulthood. Every item given, every hour volunteered, and every dollar donated goes directly to serving the most vulnerable children in South Carolina.

How They Help

Donation drive for children in foster care — Closet of Hope South Carolina
Free Clothing & Essentials

Closet of Hope provides free clothing and essential items to children and youth in foster, kinship, and adoptive families throughout South Carolina. Every child who enters care deserves to arrive with what they need — and Closet of Hope makes that happen through community donations and volunteer-powered distribution.

Emergency Relief

When a child enters care unexpectedly or a family faces sudden crisis, Closet of Hope steps in with emergency relief — providing immediate access to clothing, supplies, and essentials so caregivers can focus on the child rather than scrambling to meet their basic needs.

Aging Out Support

Youth aging out of the foster care system face the transition into adulthood with little support and fewer resources. Closet of Hope walks alongside these young people with life skills support, mentorship, and housing resources — because the system's responsibility to them doesn't end at 18.

Community Events & Seasonal Drives

From Holiday Workshops to seasonal donation drives, Closet of Hope mobilizes the Charleston community to show up for children in care throughout the year. These events build community awareness, replenish inventory, and create meaningful connection between volunteers and the mission they're supporting.
