Program Overview
Who They Are
Nurturing Change is an Austin-based nonprofit on a mission to equip caregivers to heal kids. Founded and led by Amanda Herron, Nurturing Change provides affordable TBRI® (Trust-Based Relational Intervention®) training and implementation support to biological, kinship, foster, and adoptive parents — and to the professionals who serve them.
TBRI® is an evidence-based therapeutic model developed by the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development at TCU. Nurturing Change holds one of only a handful of permissions from the Karyn Purvis Institute to train other organizations in TBRI® — making them a rare and trusted resource for trauma-informed care education in Texas and beyond.
What is TBRI®? Trust-Based Relational Intervention® is a research-backed therapeutic model designed to help caregivers connect with children from hard places — addressing the root causes of challenging behaviors through relationship, empowerment, and correction principles rooted in neuroscience and attachment theory.

How They Help
Affordable in-person and virtual TBRI® training classes for biological, kinship, foster, and adoptive parents. Nurturing Change makes this powerful, evidence-based model accessible to the caregivers who need it most — not just professionals — at a price that doesn't create barriers to access.
Beyond the classroom, Nurturing Change provides ongoing implementation support to help caregivers integrate TBRI® principles into daily family life. Understanding the model is one thing — applying it consistently with a child from a hard place is another, and Nurturing Change walks alongside families through both.
Nurturing Change also trains the professionals who serve foster and adoptive families — including social workers, therapists, educators, and child welfare workers. As a permissioned TBRI® trainer, Nurturing Change can equip entire organizations to deliver trauma-informed care at scale.
Training is available both virtually and in person in Austin, TX — making TBRI® accessible to caregivers regardless of location. Virtual classes allow families anywhere in the country to access the same quality trauma-informed training that has transformed caregiver-child relationships across Texas.

Ways to Support
Nurturing Change seeks monthly and one-time donors and funding partnerships to sustain affordable trauma-informed training — because cost should never be the reason a caregiver can't learn to help a child heal. Volunteers with connections to Austin are invited to serve on the board of directors or contribute professional skills in fundraising, marketing, design, or administrative support.
