Program Overview

Who They Are

Oak Forest Foster Closet was founded by Nicole Aboudaher with one simple conviction: no child entering foster care should arrive without the essentials they deserve. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rooted in Houston's Oak Forest neighborhood, they have built a community-powered resource hub that accepts donations of all items in good condition — and distributes them completely free to foster, kinship, and adoptive families.

Serving children ages 0–18, the closet provides clothing, shoes, toys, bedding, books, baby items, formula, and baby food — everything a family might need to welcome a child into a safe and loving home. The closet runs on volunteers, donors, and a deep belief that community shows up for kids.

How They Help

Backpack giveaway event at Oak Forest Foster Closet
Free Resource Closet

Oak Forest Foster Closet accepts donations of all gently used items and redistributes them free of charge to eligible foster, kinship, and adoptive families. Items include clothing and shoes (ages 0–18), toys, bedding, books, baby items, formula, and baby food — everything families need to welcome a child home.

Community Donation Drives

Throughout the year, Oak Forest partners with schools, churches, businesses, and community groups to host donation drives that replenish the closet's inventory. Every item donated goes directly to a family fostering, adopting, or serving as kinship caregivers in the Houston area.

Baby & Infant Supplies

A dedicated focus on the youngest and most vulnerable — the closet stocks formula, baby food, diapers, wipes, and infant clothing so that caregivers welcoming babies and toddlers into foster or kinship care have the supplies they need from day one.

Volunteer-Powered Operations

Oak Forest Foster Closet runs entirely on volunteer effort — from sorting and organizing donations to distributing supplies to families. Volunteers of all ages are welcome, and many of the organization's most dedicated supporters are students who see the direct impact of their service on children in their community.
